Dry Cutting Concrete Dubai | Dust-Free Concrete Sawing | Al Mrooj

The Problem: Water Is Not Always an Option

Standard concrete cutting uses water to cool diamond blades and suppress silica dust. But in many Dubai environments — occupied hospitals, data centers, retail malls, and electrical substations — water is prohibited. It damages sensitive equipment, creates slip hazards, and requires extensive cleanup. Dry cutting concrete is the alternative, but it generates respirable crystalline silica dust that is classified as a carcinogen under UAE occupational health regulations. Dry cutting without proper dust control exposes workers to lung disease and exposes the contractor to DM fines and project shutdown. The challenge is cutting concrete without water while maintaining air quality standards.

Our Dry Cutting Process

Al Mrooj provides HEPA-filtered dry concrete cutting for occupied buildings and water-sensitive environments.

Phase 1: Environment Assessment. We assess the space for airflow, occupancy, and dust sensitivity. A negative air pressure plan is designed if required.
Phase 2: Equipment Setup. We use vacuum-attached dry cutting saws with HEPA filtration. The vacuum captures dust at the source before it enters the air. For larger cuts, we erect temporary containment barriers around the work area.
Phase 3: Execution. The dry cut is made with a vacuum-shrouded diamond blade. Dust is extracted continuously through a HEPA filter rated to 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns.
Phase 4: Air Quality Verification. After cutting, we conduct air monitoring to confirm silica levels are below the UAE occupational exposure limit of 0.1 mg/m³. A clearance certificate is issued.
For standard wet cutting in non-sensitive environments, see our concrete cutting services.

Equipment & Capability

Our dry cutting fleet includes Husqvarna vacuum-attached flat saws with HEPA dust extractors, Hilti DCH 300 dry cutting wall saws, and portable negative air pressure units for containment. All HEPA filters are tested and certified before each project.

Compliance & Safety

Dry concrete cutting falls under UAE federal occupational health regulations for silica exposure. We conduct personal air monitoring for operators, enforce respiratory protection when required, and provide clients with air quality clearance reports. All work complies with DM dust control guidelines for occupied buildings.

Proof: Data Center Expansion in Dubai Silicon Oasis

In 2025, Al Mrooj performed dry cutting of four 600mm x 600mm openings in a reinforced concrete wall at a data center in Dubai Silicon Oasis. Water was strictly prohibited due to server equipment in the adjacent room. We used vacuum-attached dry wall saws with HEPA extraction and temporary containment. Air quality monitoring confirmed silica levels at 0.02 mg/m³ — well below the regulatory limit. The work was completed in 2 days with zero equipment damage and no downtime for the data center operations.
