Bridges carry traffic, span active roadways and waterways, and connect critical infrastructure. Demolishing a bridge without disrupting traffic, damaging utilities, or contaminating water channels requires coordination with RTA, DM, Civil Defence, and sometimes the Coast Guard. A single miscalculation in the dismantling sequence can drop a deck segment onto a live roadway or sever fiber optic cables embedded in the abutment. In Dubai, bridge demolition is classified as high-risk civil works. It requires traffic diversion plans, structural collapse analysis, and real-time monitoring of adjacent structures. Our Bridge Demolition Process

Al Mrooj provides bridge demolition for road bridges, pedestrian overpasses, and rail infrastructure.

Phase 1: Structural Assessment & Method Selection. We analyze the bridge type — beam, arch, suspension, or box girder — and select the dismantling method. Options include segmental removal with cranes, explosive demolition for isolated spans, or wire saw cutting for reinforced concrete piers.

Phase 2: Traffic & Utility Coordination. We secure RTA traffic diversion permits, notify utility providers, and install temporary traffic management systems. Night work is often required to minimize disruption.

Phase 3: Dismantling Execution. Deck segments are cut using diamond wire saws or concrete breakers, then lifted by crane. Steel girders are cut and lowered sequentially. Piers are demolished last after the superstructure is fully removed.

Phase 4: Waste Removal & Site Restoration. Concrete is crushed for fill. Steel is recycled. The abutment area is graded and restored.

Proof: Pedestrian Bridge Removal on Sheikh Zayed Road

In 2024, Al Mrooj demolished a 45-meter reinforced concrete pedestrian overpass on Sheikh Zayed Road. The bridge spanned six lanes of live traffic. We worked during night hours only, closing two lanes with RTA-approved traffic management. The deck was cut into 8 segments using diamond wire saws and removed by 100-ton crane. The piers were demolished using hydraulic breakers. The project was completed in 5 nights with zero traffic incidents and no complaints from adjacent properties.
